Vision for Galt Downtown
A healthy and vibrant downtown core supporting a progressive and growing urban population, developing the Galt core into a destination for locals and visitors alike, and making it the engine of a healthy community for the old, the young, the privileged and the marginalised.
Vision for Ward 4 Residents
Living in downtown Galt is a cherished special opportunity. A healthy and alive business core that is an activity destination will only enhance this experience.
Vision for our City
Cambridge is a special place with unique architecture and heritage elements. More river focus will only increase the benefits we all experience.
A Fresh Point of View
Restoring community pride in our downtown core, in Ward 4 and across the city. "A rising tide lifts all boats".
Revitalising the core with restaurants and businesses housed in historic buildings renovated in a manner respectful of their heritage, working collaboratively with landlords, the BIA and downtown residents.
Responsible development to provide attainable, modern housing for young people and families close to transit hubs and within walking distance of downtown businesses, allowing Cambridge to approach the population density achievements of other nearby vibrant communities.
More below-market rental units are essential to do our part to assist the over 7,000 people in our region who are on the waitlist for affordable housing. New condo development should include below-market rental units.
Respecting the environment while taking better advantage of the river frontage for recreational, family and tourist activities with improved trail systems, green spaces and artscapes to serve both existing and new residents.
Recognizing the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness and those living in poverty in Cambridge and working to coordinate the efforts of the social services agencies scattered throughout Ward 4 to improve their efficiency and their effectiveness. "A healthy downtown supports a healthy community that can better support the marginalised at the fringes of society." [Terry Polyak]
Progressive action is needed to tackle today’s challenges of addiction and mental health in our community. Cambridge can be a leader by learning from experts and other communities with more advanced experience. We need to do more to help our citizens in need.
